Battlebot: LYNX
A combat robot built around a high-RPM, high-torque horizontal spinning weapon.
A competition battlebot designed around a horizontal spinning blade - the high-energy weapon class where the whole robot is built to survive delivering and taking hits.
The design prioritised both RPM and torque in the weapon, with the chassis and drivetrain built to keep the robot controllable under the gyroscopic and impact loads a spinner generates.
Highlights
- High-RPM, high-torque horizontal spinning blade.
- Built and iterated for a live combat competition.
Weapon vs. survivability
Spinners are a study in trade-offs: energy stored in the weapon comes back as recoil and gyroscopic effects that fight your driving. Balancing weapon spin-up, drive control and structural survivability is the core engineering problem.
